Discover the creations of Didier Gardillou, a master of porcelain trompe-l’œil, whose works are distinguished by their striking realism and exceptional technical mastery. Entirely shaped and meticulously hand-painted, each of his creations is a unique work of art, poised between decorative object and contemporary sculpture.
SEMI-SOFT PASTE PORCELAIN.
Covered box in semi-soft paste porcelain created by Didier Gardillou, representing a spectacular “Pink Snowball”, entirely composed of a multitude of small flowers in relief, each individually modelled by hand.
Spherical in form, the box rests on a base discreetly integrated into the floral composition. The entire body and lid are covered with a dense profusion of small pink flowers, with delicately shaded petals and centres highlighted with touches of yellow and green. The abundance of flowers and the finesse of their modelling give the piece a striking sense of volume and naturalism.
The lid is surmounted by a finial in the form of a green-glazed leafy stem, accompanied by two broad, finely veined leaves in shades of green and purple. Their naturalistic treatment and contrasting tones enliven the soft chromatic harmony of the floral composition.
While retaining its function as a box, the object asserts itself as a true decorative sculpture, recalling the naturalistic forms and illusionistic ceramics developed during the 18th century. Didier Gardillou renews this tradition through a resolutely contemporary, playful and refined interpretation, deliberately blurring the boundary between functional object and work of art.
Each flower is entirely modelled and painted by hand, making every example unique. Through the precision of its modelling, the subtlety of its colours and the extraordinary richness of its details, this “Pink Snowball” fully demonstrates Didier Gardillou’s virtuosity and his remarkable ability to translate the beauty of the natural world into porcelain.
These trompe-l’œil boxes, produced in very limited numbers, are particularly sought after today by collectors and enthusiasts of contemporary ceramics. True works of art, they naturally find their place in a display cabinet, on a table or within a collection of singular objects, where their sculptural presence never fails to surprise.
