PARIS – HALLEY MANUFACTORY – PLATE – CIRCA 1800

Of circular form, resting on a shallow foot ring, the plate has a relatively shallow profile. The central area, known as the “well”, is surrounded by a gently curved cavetto, leading to the flat outer border traditionally known as the “rim” in porcelain manufacture, or the “marli” in silversmithing.

HARD-PASTE PORCELAIN.

White-ground porcelain plate decorated in polychrome enamels with a perched bird identified as a “Crested Tanager”. The beige-ground border is punctuated by reserves containing branches painted in sepia monochrome.

Condition : GOOD CONDITION – Two restored hairline cracks affecting the rim and the well of the plate, completely invisible to the naked eye.
