19TH-CENTURY WALL SCONCE ENHANCED WITH PORCELAIN FLOWERS BY DIDIER GARDILLOU

A two-light wall sconce in wrought iron and cut sheet metal, executed in a naturalistic style. Its gracefully sinuous structure evokes intertwining branches, centred around an elegantly sculpted ribbon bow.

The two candle arms, arranged in the form of a floral corolla, terminate in porcelain tulip-shaped candleholders, each fitted with a candle sleeve surmounted by a flame-shaped electric fitting.

The original porcelain flowers have been replaced with unique contemporary porcelain creations by Didier Gardillou, the renowned French ceramic artist celebrated for his remarkably lifelike floral compositions.

FLORAL COMPOSITION

Entirely handcrafted and hand-painted in porcelain, these flowers are distinguished by their extraordinary realism. Their vibrant polychrome decoration faithfully recreates the subtle colours, textures and freshness of natural blossoms.

Each flower has been individually modelled and painted by hand, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of Didier Gardillou, a master ceramic artist internationally recognised for his porcelain floral trompe-l'œil. He is widely regarded as the only artist to achieve such an exceptional and uniquely convincing level of realism in porcelain flowers.

Every composition is entirely unique, creating a subtle and harmonious dialogue between an antique object and contemporary artistic creation. The result is an exceptional work that is both a sculpture and a refined decorative object.

The marriage of this antique wall sconce with Gardillou's contemporary porcelain flowers creates a remarkably elegant composition, where nineteenth-century decorative arts and contemporary ceramic sculpture come together in perfect harmony.
