RARE and charming Sceaux soft-paste porcelain figure depicting a young woman in a pastoral scene.
Standing upon a rocky mound modelled in relief, she holds a knotted ribbon in each hand. At her feet, a small donkey—or possibly a pony—raises its head towards her affectionately, creating a touching interaction between the figure and the animal.

Sceaux soft-paste porcelain figures are RARE on the market. The manufactory is better known for its production of faience, particularly its figures and figural groups, which survive in significantly greater numbers. Its more limited and fragile soft-paste porcelain production has left relatively few figures preserved in good condition, which accounts for their rarity today.
