The hard-paste porcelain saucer, produced by the Sèvres Manufactory, is distinguished by its luminous white ground and the elegant gilt scrollwork frieze decorating the rim, enhanced with a regular pattern of finely painted gilt dots. Its deep central well has been ingeniously transformed into the interior compartment of the box.
The lid, conceived by Isabelle Fustinoni, transforms this once utilitarian object into a precious sculptural work. Crafted from turned walnut, its warm, concentric grain lends the piece remarkable depth and character. The gently domed form evokes both a protective canopy and an organic casket, while the satin finish enhances the natural beauty of the wood.
The finial consists of a large ivory bead, surmounted by a polished brass element. Surrounding this central knop, a constellation of small lacquered gilt-brass beads has been delicately inlaid into the walnut, creating an effect reminiscent of fine jewellery. The harmonious dialogue between the warmth of the walnut, the brilliance of the gilt brass, and the refined elegance of the Sèvres porcelain establishes a subtle balance between heritage and contemporary creation, elevating the piece into a truly exceptional collector's work.
