RARE PARIS PORCELAIN EWER AND BASIN – LATE 18TH CENTURY – DIRECTOIRE PERIOD

Of elegant, elongated form, raised on a moulded circular pedestal foot. The ovoid body, slightly swelling in its lower section, gradually tapers into a tall, narrow, flared neck terminating in a shaped and undulating pouring spout. A high vertical handle rises from the rear of the body and extends to the upper rim.

HARD-PASTE PORCELAIN

Decorated on a white ground with a rich polychrome and gilt design known as the “Salembier” pattern, arranged in panels. The body is adorned with rectangular reserves outlined in gold, containing garlands of polychrome roses and flowers linked by delicate ribbons and scrolling foliage. These reserves alternate with vertical green-ground panels, also decorated with small flowers.

The composition is further enriched with scattered gilt florets, friezes of foliage, gold garlands and small polychrome arabesque motifs. The upper neck bears a lighter decoration of scrolls, foliage, garlands and radiating gilt motifs. Gold lines highlight the rim, spout, handle, moulded bands of the body and pedestal foot.

The matching basin repeats the same polychrome and gilt decoration as the ewer, with reserves containing floral garlands alternating with polychrome panels. The centre is embellished with scattered florets alternating with gold dots. Gold lines border the rim.
