Original watercolour by contemporary artist David Mansot, known as “Le Cabaniste,” signed and dated 2025 at the lower right.
Against the white background of the paper stands an extraordinary suspended structure, halfway between a treehouse, a lighthouse and a flying machine. A small dwelling clad in soft green boards, with a door and a circular window, is set against a tall tower crowned by a belvedere.
The architecture appears to be held aloft by a delicate arrangement of stilts, beams, cables and ladders. Several red propellers, positioned along the sides and beneath the platform, reinforce the impression of a flying cabin ready to embark upon an imaginary journey. An armchair placed on the terrace, a few familiar objects and washing hung out to dry humorously suggest the presence of its mysterious occupant.
In the background, a generous mass of vegetation unfolds like the crown of a tree or a protective cloud, enhancing the dreamlike character of this structure suspended between earth and sky.
David Mansot combines the spontaneity of fine, lively ink drawing with the delicate transparency of watercolour.
Trained in cabinetmaking, applied arts and interior architecture, David Mansot describes himself as a “cabaniste”—a creator of cabins. He designs imaginary refuges and miniature architectural structures filled with poetry, combining childhood memories, reclaimed materials, humour and a spirit of escape.
This watercolour transposes onto paper the distinctive world of his sculpted cabins.
