ROUGE, OINTMENT OR POMADE POT WITH ITS COVER – UNIDENTIFIED MANUFACTORY – ATTRIBUTED TO PARIS – EARLY 19TH CENTURY

Of cylindrical form, it features straight sides resting on a slightly moulded base. The gently domed, overhanging cover is surmounted by a button-shaped finial.

HARD-PASTE PORCELAIN

Against a white ground, it is richly decorated in gilt with radiating palmettes, stylised floral motifs and lyre-shaped ornaments, connected by delicate leafy garlands tied with ribbons. The cover repeats the same decorative vocabulary in a radiating composition, alternating palmettes, branches and geometric motifs around the central finial. Broad gilt bands highlight the body and borders.
